The Prothec System is a unique, patented vine tieing system consisting of the Prothec pliers and degradable Prothec ties. Prothec protects vines, simplifies pruning and reduces operating costs while preventing girdling and other plant damage. Prothec enables growers to quickly secure vines to trellis wires by twisting and cutting the tying material in one quick action.
The prothec series of degradable tie spools are designed for use on cane pruned vines as well as for establishing cordons.
Available in photo-degradable and fully certified biodegradable formats, the ties are designed to breakdown or degrade in 1, 2 or 3+ seasons, depending upon the color of the tie. Individual tie spools can contain 1, 2 or 3 wires. The free floating wires inside the tie breakdown by coming into contact with moisture which enters inside the tie through very small holes.
All prothec “BIO” ties transform into compost after falling onto the ground and mixing with the soil.
The tie spools are designed to be quickly tied to the vine using the prothec pliers.
The prothec pliers contain very few moving parts and virtually all parts of the pliers are available in the three repair kits.
